“The volume discusses, illustrates, and analyzes baskets in three media. It is well written . . . has excellent pictures of basketmakers at work, as well as of the baskets themselves from many collections.”
“It will appeal to collectors elsewhere because of the similarity with basket traditions and techniques in other parts of the country.”

This book examines the 19th- and 20th-century baskets made by immigrants and their descendants, and points out in what ways these baskets resemble or differ from those made in other parts of the country. Regional styles within the state are identified and baskets are discussed in terms of changing construction methods, materials, and the forms or shapes used by the makers. A list of documented basketmakers is included.
