This work brings together and integrates current knowledge of metabolic control processes, in response to a pressing need. It focuses on the control of metabolism at the various levels of biological and social organization—molecular, cellular, organismic, extraorganismic, and theoretical. Ideas of regulation and control permeate the entire fields of biology, agriculture, and medicine. Since these ideas arose at many times and on different occasions, it is not surprising that an integrated coverage of such a complex collection of information has been lacking. Hence, The Control of Metabolism will be welcomed by the student, the researcher, and the teacher in the agricultural, biological, and medical sciences.
