Lactation

Milk and its products form an important part of human food, and the supply of milk to suckling animals largely determines their rate of growth. Research on lactation is therefore of continuing value to mankind, as it is one of the areas of mammalian biology that is of greatest importance to food production.

This volume combines the newest research and skills of scientists from many areas of animal biology, from fetal mammary morphology and mammary ultrastructure, to endocrinology, biochemistry, nutrient utilization, and mammalian nutrition. This has allowed a coherent pattern of presentation in which each section of the book is based on those preceding it.
