Welcome to the December issue of Ancient News, the month of holidays, exams, grading, and lists, lists of best of this or that for the year, or in this year’s case, best (or worst) of the decade. While list-making has a great ANE pedigree, I will leave that to others. I will simply mention two milestones of the year: On October 10th, Jim officially retired after 44 years, marking what many have called “the end of an era.” And shortly thereafter, Dr. Jennifer Singletary (Jen) started as the new acquisitions editor. Some of you had the privilege of meeting her at ASOR or AAR/SBL.
Winding down the year, and decade, I keep thinking of a word that Jim has used a lot in the last few years: gratitude. I’m grateful for the privilege of working for Eisenbrauns (now part of PSU Press) and being able to make available to all of you these great books. Grateful for your continued support. Grateful. A good word to describe the last decade—and a good word to take into the next one.
Between the controlled chaos of the conferences, we still managed to publish a bit. I've highlighted two new books since the conferences and a few that published just before. Remember, you can still receive 50% off Phylis Bird’s Harlot or Holy Woman, with coupon code BIRD19 through the end of the year.
For December, we’re running a month-long sale featuring a potpourri of twenty titles at 40% off. I’ve listed some of the titles below, but take time to visit the sale page to see them all. Sale ends December 31st.
Speaking of sales, last month we added a summary sales page (including PSU Press sales) so you won't miss any of our specials. Bookmark it! And don't miss this pair of PSU Press sales (that include Eisenbrauns titles!): Staff Picks, featuring, among other books, two chosen by Jen and two by myself, and the annual Kern holiday sale at 30–50% off (scroll to the bottom of the sale for Eisenbrauns titles). Both sales end December 31st.
Rounding out this month’s Ancient News are two PSU Press books. One is a new release; the other is new to paperback. Use coupon code NR18 to receive 30% off.
Enjoy!
James
This volume is the most recent collective contribution of a group of biblical scholars and archaeologists who are engaged in an ongoing debate about the nature of family and household religion in ancient Israel and its environment. It is intended to complement the volume Household and Family Religion in Antiquity, edited by John Bodel and Saul M. Olyan, which grew out of a conference held at Brown University in 2005 on household and family religion in the ancient Mediterranean world, with an. . . (more)
