Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Theatre Research

Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Theatre Research is a peer-reviewed, academic journal edited under the auspices of the department of English at Valdosta State University. The journal features scholarship on late seventeenth- and eighteenth-century British and European drama and staging. Issues contain articles, theatre reviews, book reviews, and occasional interviews.

RECTR was founded by Carl J. Stratman in 1962 at Loyola University, Chicago. In 1986, Douglas H. White became editor of RECTR, marking the beginning of the journal’s “Second Series.” RECTR was transferred to the University of Denver in 2001, where it was edited by Jessica Munns. Since 2013, RECTR has been edited by Anne Greenfield, and it remains co-edited by Jessica Munns.

Articles should be between 5,000 to 8,000 words, and they should be accompanied by a 150-word abstract. Book reviews and theatre reviews should be between 750 to 1,000 words. All submissions should adhere to the style guide, found here.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use any copyrighted material contained in their articles/reviews, including providing payment (where applicable). Authors are encouraged to obtain image permissions as soon as possible after their submission is accepted for publication, as this process can be lengthy and make take weeks. Images should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
